One of our sponsors, the Sacramento Asian Peace Officer invited Miss Asia Sacramento to their Awards dinner.
The Asian Peace Officers Association was created in 1991 as a Valley Chapter of the Northern California Peace Officers Association. In 1993, the Valley Chapter created this independent entity as a non profit IRS § 501(c)(3) charitable organization. As part of its mission, the APOA created a Martial Arts Academy for youth from local communities to make an impact on juvenile delinquency and violence.
There we served as guest greeters, seating the many guests at their tables. The many guests who attended are important, contributing members within the Asian American community. I was also honored to meet with the Master of Ceremony, Janet O, who is an Asian American news reporter for KCRA 3 News here in Sacramento! It was a great networking opportunity.
I also was invited to sing the National Anthem to open the dinner for the night. Within the night there were several awards given out to individuals. Miss Asia Sacramento Princess and Miss Scholar, Elodie Thao, was award the Vu Nguyen Memorial Scholarship! This scholarship award is given only to someone who intends to pursue a career in law enforcement. The recipient should demonstrate pride in their work and have a high level of integrity in their personal and professional interactions. These are all qualities exemplified by Detective Vu Nguyen. Congratulations to Elodie!
Throughout the night we helped sell raffle tickets and presented the prizes to the winners (over 50 prizes were given away, including King’s jerseys, Sharrif Jewelry, and a flat screen tv).
With Mrs. Vietnam of Sacramento 2011, Helen, KCRA News Reporter, Janet O, APOA Board Member, Michael Xiong, and myself.
With Dr. Randy, President of APOA
Congratulations to Elodie!
