On May 6th, I had the opportunity to attend the Miss Black Sacramento Pageant with First Princess, Jenny Mo and Second Princess, Christina Lee. This pageant is one of our sister pageants. This pageant has been running for 42 years and every year, the community supports this pageant. Much like our pageant, there was a teen competition with girls ranging in age from 13-17 and a miss competition with young women ranging in age from 18-27. The theme for the pageant night was “Girls Run the World”. I thought this was a wonderful theme, as it portrays a strong message that girls are capable of running the world. I enjoyed seeing the girls on stage and hearing the screams of support from friends, family and sponsors in the audience. The girls had a talent portion as well. There were many dances performed and singing. They also had girls that recited their own poems. The poems reflected the girl’s personality and experiences. Many awards given out that night such as best personality and best evening gown. I also had the opportunity to appear on stage and say a few words before the 2012 queens were crowned. Congratulations to the two new Miss Black Sacramento Queens, Darnasha Johnson, Miss Teen Black Sacramento, and Allie Mckoy, Miss Black Sacramento! I wish you two a good year!
